Trials Fusion: Review (PS4)

With the long-awaited update finally here, I thought this to be a great moment to review this game.
This game, brought to us by Ubisoft, made by the RedLynx studio is a physics based race game where you catch air on dirt bikes in scenic, yet deadly environments. So rev up that engine and let's get going.
Let's get going

Welcome to the future

"Trials Fusion" is a physics based arcade game. You control a bike and his rider. By leaning your rider forward or backwards on his bike, and giving throttle or braking you have to complete a parcours in the fastest time, with the least bails. That's the simple explanation. The truth is that you'll spend some time in learning how your bike reacts to those movements. Once you've gotten the hang of the basic movement you'll be able to go and push your skill to the limit by even completing tricks while you're flying through the air.
I can fly!

Vroom Vroom

You are an expert rider in the far future, eager to conquer all kinds of parcours. The game offers you a selection of parcours available. In arcade style you have to complete these levels and you'll be rewarded by medals, based on your score. As you gain more medals, you'll unlock more levels and bikes to use. Next to this "campaign-mode", you can go online and try some of the user-made levels. There is already a huge selection of great parcours available for you to try and complete. By challenging yourself in those different places, you earn experience and money, which in part can be used to buy new equipment to better suit your likings. These items you can buy are unfortunately only aesthetic, but it does feel better to play with a customised character :) The soundtrack which accomplishes the game is great. It gives you a direct immersion into a futuristic game, and it accompagnies the settings. You'll find yourself speaking along with the "welcome to the future" more than a few times.

You think you can beat me?

Well, step up and prove it! Trials Fusion offers you a 4-player split-screen where you can challenge your friends from the enjoyment of your couch to a race, of show-off. This leads to you nudging your opponent just so they'd land badly and give you the victory. But since this week Ubisoft has released the first (of hopefully many) tournaments. You can partake in courses, where your final score will be ranked against the world. To make things fair, every vehicle is available to choose. So you don't need to unlock vehicles using single player. Depending on which tier you end up in, you are awarded with better prizes. These go from XP and cash to unlockable gear (in the future). Since you see your ranking it does provide you with enough encouragement to try and climb those few places higher!
Yee haw!

It does not end here!

Ubisoft has made a great port of the game, called "Trials Frontier" which you can download for iPad. This game, exactly like "Trials Fusion" allows you to embark on fun rides through a desert scape. To be honest, "Trials Frontier" offers you an entire storyline, so it's a great game to pick up and play! If you play both games you'll even get to unlock a special suit for your rider in "Trials Frontier". They've also hidden throughout the game several squirrels for us to find. These can be found by finding specific paths or simply by crashing on the correct location. There's even a level where you're able to play tennis!

Verdict

"Trials Fusion" does not contain THAT much of content, but it offers you a game which is quick to learn but HARD to master. The engine works great, and the different styles of bikes take some training to get the hang of. Since you need to complete parcours on Gold to advance you can be certain you'll either spend a lot of time honing your skill, or giving up rather soon. I do urge you to keep trying and you'll see that this game offers you a challenging but rewarding outcome.
Great environments
