InFamous: Second Son Review (PS4)

A tagging street-punk, who gains special powers and his cop-brother taking on the military stronghold formerly known as Seattle and her leader Augustine. This is the main plot line for the new title by the gaming production "Sucker Punch". So I plugged in "InFamous: Second Son", turned my controller sideways, and started tagging the big billboard on top of my grandma's factory.
Welcome to the third title of this franchise

We are Akomish, we take care of our own

In the aftermath of the previous games, the current world is flooded by "conduits", or as the military calls them "Bio terrorists". These people with special powers are now hunted on, and captured to provide a safer environment for the "normal" people. You are Delsin Rowe, a free fought guy, trying to make his own mark on the world, and during a transport of some "Bio Terrorists", the transport crashes in your town, and you absorb the power of someone you were trying to save from the crashed wreckage. After absorbing his powers, you try to catch him in hope of getting rid of those powers once again. But by the time you catch up with him, the DUP (Department of Unified Protection aka, the military bad guys) turn up under guidance of their big bad leader Augustine and arrest him. She knows you are hiding something and there you'll have to make you first choice between good and bad.
Whom will you save?
Both actually end in her torturing your people and leaving town. Once you wake up, you swear to take vengeance on her and go to Seattle, accompanied by your cop-brother.You quickly get to Seattle and there you'll be running around to gather new, or improve your powers by meeting and defeating several other power infused people. Whenever you meet someone important, you'll get another choice to use their powers for good, or for bad. Unfortunately, none of your choices really have much impact on the game, or gameplay. You'll fight through the city, getting stronger in the meanwhile, while clearing the city of the DUP forces in an ultimate attempt to find, catch and defeat Augustine and free your people.
That's a big guy..

Powers and progress

In the beginning of the game, you'll gain the power to turn into smoke. Thanks to this, you're able to run through gates, go up air vents and shoot smoke shots to subdue your enemies. This power can be improved by absorbing shards, which are scattered across the city. Once you've gotten enough shards, you'll be able to buy upgrades for your powers. Don't worry, you won't be stuck with simply the power to puff some smoke. Not long into the city, you'll gain the ability to draw strength from neon lighting, and use that to move 'lightfast' (get the pun :)), and shoot very accurate shots.
Disco fever!
Once you're about two thirds of the game, you'll even get the power to absorb video signals. This gives you the power to blast signals at your enemies, turn invisible, and more! All those powers can even go in to overdrive turning into an area destroying attack turning you into an invincible fighting machine. You'll find that you'll quickly gain enough powers to turn you so strong that it'll take an entire DUP force to bring you down! While you're running though the city, you'll spend some time to free the city from the clutches from the DUP. This can be done by finding secret agents, destroying DUP checkpoints, tagging certain walls, .. and finally challenging the DUP for control of this sector. Once you defeat their reinforcements, you'll have pushed them back, reducing their numbers into this city. And you'll want to do it as well. Not only will it improve your powers, but you're another step closer to getting another Platinum trophy.
And angels will fall from heaven..

Afterthoughts

Having finished the game completely, I'm disappointed in the fact that there is so little difference between the good, and the bad karma. The most difference between them are some cutscenes and the fact that the citizens tend to cheer you on if you're "good", and run away when you're "evil". The second issue is the fact that our hero STILL can't swim. I used to 'understand' this, being an electric conduit and all, but now.. This said, the game does play smoother than other InFamous titles, and provides you with enough reasons to keep on playing. Though the difficulty settings change the endurance of the enemies, you can safely play the game on the highest difficulty, especially if you collect the shards.
Let mommy soothe you big crybabies..
