Dino Hunt Dice: Review

Some games are so easy to play you pick them up at the store as a gift, or simply because they look fun. "Dino Hunt Dice" is that kind of game. As part of Steve Jackson's "One more roll"-games, these games are known for their addictive behaviour, so let's start rolling.
Quick and fun game, for a small price!

Dino Hunt Dice?

"Dino Hunt Dice" is a dice rolling game in which you try to capture dinosaurs as quickly as you can. The games take about 10 minutes each and require more luck than actual skill. It is very child friendly, offering not only smaller dice, but it is all about dinosaurs! (and who didn't love dino's when they were growing up). The game can be explained in a single round and can be played from 2 players to whatever number of players fits at your table. The objective of the game is to be the first to catch 20 dinosaurs.

Contents

"Dino Hunt Dice" comes in a sturdy cardboard dice cup, which makes it easy to use as a travel game. It contains 10 rather small dice and, of course, the instructions. That's all! And it actually is all you need to have a good time. The box has also been made smaller than other "One more roll"-games allowing it to be handled easier by children.
Sometimes happiness comes in a small package

Gameplay

In "Dino Hunt Dice" you take turns in rolling dice. You shake the dice cup, and randomly (without looking) chose 3 dice which you roll. Green ones, with a drawing of a herbivore are easiest to catch, followed by yellow triceratopses and red tyrannosaurs! You roll those 3 dice, and based on what you roll, you either catch them (if you get their silhouet), they hide from you (with a leaf) OR you get stomped upon (foot)! Once you've rolled, you get to keep all the silhouets and all the feet you've rolled. At this moment you can decide to either stop (and gain points for every dinosaur you've collected) or roll again. By rolling again, you take all the leaf-dice you've rolled, and take new dice out of the dice cup until you have 3 dice to roll again. If at any point you collect 3 feet, you're stomped flat, and earn no points this round. This makes deciding to make another roll, or choosing to keep the dinosaurs you already caught your biggest dilemma.
You've got to catch those dino's!

Verdict

Having already spent hours playing the game with the kids, and constantly having other winners, "Dino Hunt Dice" has earned itself a place among our regular games. The children love getting to catch the dino's hiding in the bushes, or their daddy getting splattered by those feet, and even grown-ups can get some fun out of it. Though if you're into this kind of games (and I'm sure everybody loves this kind of easy-to-play games) and want a more adult version, you'll find that Steve Jackson offers several editions of this type of game of which surely one will be to your liking!
Not a dino fan? Maybe some braaaaiiiiins?
