We got woken up abruptly at 7am by the japanese-only speaking obaasan(Japanese for granny, or how the owner of the Ryokan liked to be called) with breakfast tea and onigiri. Being up that early gave us the opportunity to seize the day!

The folk village of Hida |
Hida no Sato (old town)
The Hida folk village is a must see open air museum about 1.5km from the town center, it shows you the way of life and different house styles in the Hida region during the Edo period until more modern times. During a visit that easily takes an hour or two you get to see a lot of the history of the people. They even offer a fun stamp collection game, which just fueled my recently started stamps collection (more about that later)

Artisans at work |
After exploring the village, we headed back to the station and were on our way to Kyoto. Listening to the audiobooks of the famous wizard Harry Dresden, we quickly arrived at our destination.
Kyoto
Another great city in a great country. Kyoto will be our base for the next three days. After finding our hostel (yeah, you heard that right..) we still had some time to burn and went into one of the busy shopping streets.

Ship shop shop till you drop |
There certainly is a lot to be done here, and lots to see. But for now, we just walked around a bit, had a nice dinner and prepared for tomorrow!
