Waking up too late for breakfast (again) we damned (and praised) the soft bed. We quickly got dressed and started the day fresh!

In this time of terrorism, the fear for another nuclear mishap is great |
Hiroshima memorial
Best known as the place where the atom bomb was dropped the 6th of August, 1945, Hiroshima was an administrative center for the Japanese forces. This meant a big target for the Americans, but also a lot of civilian lives.. The memorial museum tells the story of these people and the burdens they've had to endure since.

Running was no option.. |
The stories are heartfelt and should be heard. If you ever visit, walk past the memorials, hear the stories in the museums and expositions and hope that we won't repeat that same mistake. We took the long walk out of the park, letting some of the stories sink in before taking the bus to our next destination.

Part of the Remembrance Hall |
Hiroshima Castle
Before we went there, we visited the beautiful garden a bit north of it, called Shukkeien. This garden is a miniature representation of bigger works and is a pleasure to walk through. Be sure to visit it!
|
We even found Kodama a house! |
The castle of Hiroshima is surrounded by different gates and other buildings. Though now mostly in ruins because of the A-bomb, the park around you still reminds you of its former might.
|
Another show of strength! |
The castle itself, though a reconstruction because of you know what, boasts its technical strength and displays the history that came with it reuniting the different lords around this area, thus creating the town. Next to that there was an exposition about swords and armour which was neat.
Hiroshima shopping
The rest of the day was spent going in and out of several shopping malls, arcades, even playing some Mario Kart

Toad FTW! |
Afterwards, we went out for dinner to have some Okonomiyaki. That's kind of a Japanese filled pancake (hearty, not sweet!), very tasty, especially if you get it in Nagata-ya, a well known and renowned restaurant. Well worth the wait! Now to prepare for tomorrow!
