Today became a day of travel. After having so much fun yesterday, today we had to pack all our stuff up and head for our next destination, Hiroshima! But first we made a stop..

A mighty fortress atop a hill |
Himeji
To split the relatively long trip from Osaka to Hiroshima my wife-to-be planned a trip to Himeji. A smaller city that houses this big feudal castle. Being used primarily to house several garrisons during the past centuries, this bastion is made with an entire wooden core. Its defenses were outstanding and during the 2hour walk through the domains you learn a lot about how the castle became bigger and more important. Certainly worth the visit.

THAT'S a fortification! |
Afterwards we went to the city Zoo next to the Castle. Entry was free today and we always love to see animals. Except today.. The circumstances in the zoo were appalling. Mostly but one animal in a (filthy) cage, and serious signs of stress on some of those animals. By the time we passed some of them, we were really feeling sorry for them. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to attack the zoo as is, but it left a very poor impression. Certainly because of the nice and unique animals it houses...

Oi Oi, step away from that cage brah.. |
Finally we stepped back on the train and were quickly in Hiroshima (gotta love super-expresses). We checked in to our hotel (not far from the memorial park) and I firstly washed some of my clothes before we went out to eat something. Now to clean up further and prepare for tomorrow, while lying in a great soft bed for a change!
