Our exploration of Nagasaki

Having the entire day to spend exploring Nagasaki, we didn't have that much planned. With Gunkanjima island (which was the inspiration for the bad guys' lair in the movie Skyfall) not being my cup of (maccha) tea, we were up to explore other things.
A Catholic Cathedral is a nice change of view after all those shrines

Downtown Nagasaki

Waking up after a rowdy night, we had a decent breakfast in our hotel. The meal made our day off to a good start. So after taking a refreshing shower, we hit the road and were on our way to Oura Cathedral. This is supposed to be the oldest Cathedral in Japan, and was built when catholics first came back to Japan after they were no longer persecuted. Though interesting, it was hardly worth our time. We walked further and came past Confucius' shrine. Now let me tell you, this wasn't worth our money, mainly because of the lack of any English descriptions on any exhibits. This didn't only contain a fancy shrine, but another museum about the Chinese (neither translated which was a serious waste..)

Chinatown Nagasaki

Having seen the museum we were close to Nagasaki's Chinatown, so we went to take a look. It was no more than 2 streets of shops and small restaurants,  not even that Chinese in our opinion. We found a fancy Chinese costume for my son though, to use on his scouting camp so it wasn't a total loss. We took the long way round, walking past the old Chinese shrines. In the past, when Chinese settlers came, they were forced to live together (as were the Dutch) in this porttown, having a real Chinatown. So once we visited those badly maintained shrines we reached the shopping arcade.
Chinese are still easy to be found..
Let me tell you, we've been to several shopping arcades the past two weeks, and nothing new can be told about this one. The Japanese really do have a lot of small restaurants, quick snacks and a lot of clothing shops. Though some were interesting we got bored of them and returned to our hotel.
On the way to our hotel we decided to hop in to the shopping mall near to our hotel. Mainly to get something to snack but I felt like playing an arcade game.
Games, games, games!
We had a blast. Starting with some of their musical games, I played kind of a piano version of Guitar hero while my fiancée tried her hands on a QuickTime Slam game (really don't know how to better describe it..). Up next were the big drums that were like the new version of Donkey Konga. Though fun, I like Konga better. Following was the airhockey table. But not ANY airhockey,  no, a multi-gazillion-puck airhockey! Great fun was had! Playing some small crane games, we finished with a medal game with Pokémon theme. Although we had no idea what we were doing, we still had some good fun before finally giving up.

Going back quite early to our hotel, we had the opportunity to check out some television. But now, time for something to eat, and to get ready for tomorrow. Our last stop is coming up!
