For Honor Beta

This weekend Ubisoft entertains us with the beta of their upcoming game For Honor.
I had the pleasure of partaking in this beta, and found it to be a great version of medieval Rainbow Six!
Hack and slash your epic way through hordes of enemies in a quest to slay other heroes is the concept and it works great!
For HONOR!

For Honor

By choosing one of three factions, you start your heroic adventure. The factions are Vikings, Knights and Samurai. Though there isn't any direct influence by choosing these factions in the beta, it might be in the game. Everyone  of the nine different characters (three per faction) are playable, and each have their own skills and experience counter.

Game modes

There are 3 game modes available that both can be played against the AI or against other players.
Duel (1v1), Brawl (2v2) and Dominion (4v4). Dominion not only pits you and your 3 team mates against 4 opponents, but also throws in other warriors to keep you all company in this epic fight for power. These guys can be easily killed, but they do add to the fun and the environment.
This map is also used for the meta-game of conquest

How does it play

The game self is an advanced version of tic-tac-toe. You can defend and attack in three different zones. Up, Left and Right. Using a normal, or a Heavy attack you slash away at your opponents while trying to dodge the incoming pieces of sharpened metal.
men, there are the latrines

Customisation

By completing games you earn "metal" and experience which allows you to buy new equipment for your characters. Not only can you change equipment, but almost any piece of aesthetics can be modified in design or color. Because playing gives you chance of receiving loot, as well as "metal", I'm certain that modifying your preferred character will be an interesting part of the game.

This only shows the different parts, your weapons can be customised as well

Compared to

games like Overwatch, that depend on much more tactics, For Honor is purely a hack-and-slash. This game relies on your singular strength, while helping your allies when required. I compared the game to a medieval Rainbow Six: Siege in the beginnning, and I stand by it. You'll get to learn several specific characters, and will most likely keep playing but a few of them.

Play this if

you like the entire concept of measuring yourself against other heated warriors. Not over who has the best aim, but who can wield their weapon the best!
Now where should I leave my axe...

Leave this if

you can't stand losing. This game is harsh and really punishing. Expect to die a lot and know this game takes some getting used to. It's a very interesting and effective combat system, but not one we're used to!

anyways, I'm back of to be-head some vikings!
