Assassin's Creed Origins

Announced as a complete reboot of the franchise, Ubisoft has brought forth Assassin's Creed Origins. Now we get to find out what was the true origin story of the brotherhood, and where did all this truly start. But is this a clean reboot? Does the same old playstyle still hold, or did they really shake it up? I can honestly say, they shaked it up, and for the better!
Welcome to Egypt in this prologue

How does it play?

As with any Assassin's Creed game, Origins is a third person adventure game. You take the role of Bayek. A protector of Egypt with a vendetta against 'the order of Ancients'. I won't spoil much of the story but know you'll meet up with both Cleopatra and Julius Caesar, and you eventually do find out the origin of the Creed. Well worth it!

Bayek is a protector of the people. And because of that he can handle several types of weapons. In comparison to the previous game, you are no longer limited to simply a sword or an axe.
During your adventure in the sand, you'll be swinging swords, polearms, daggers, axes and much more. All of these have their own characteristics and stats, allowing you to really choose weapons that fit your specific playstyle.
Not only the close combat weapons have received this treatment, but the ranged weapons as well. Now there's a huge difference between the light bow which allows for quick shooting, and a hunter bow that almost feels like a shotgun. Because of all these options, the game allows you to keep two sets of weapons readily available for quick switching out of playstyles.

As you can see from the picture, there are different kinds of weapons, levels and types of rarity. Have no fear, you're able to increase the level of your weapon to your current level thanks to the blacksmith. So finding a legendary weapon in the beginning of your journey can last you through the game! Origins not only introduces different weapon qualities, but also a whole experience tree. This allows you to choose the skills of your character as you progress through the game. Don't worry, although level 40 is the maximum level, you keep getting experience points every time.
Will you be a stealthy archer, a mighty warrior or will you bend your will unto others?
Apart from your own experience, you'll no longer be able to depend on your eagle vision. Luckily you'll be able to see from the skies with the help of your eagle! this will help you to explore enemy camps, find hidden treasures and annoy guards before you make an attack on their encampment.
During the game, you'll also be playing sea missions (similar to Black Flag) as Bayek's wife, Aya. These missions can be difficult, especially if you haven't played Black Flag before, but are a welcome change with the strolling through Egypt.
When it comes to content, you won't be disappointed. At the moment of this review I've finished most of the entire game, but it costed me about 70 hours. During this I've completed the storyline (of about 20-25 hours) about 80 side missions (which are no longer fetch quests, but truly fun side stories), and defeated most of the extra challenges. So be prepared to spend some hours into destroying all the bad people in this game!
The arena is mine!

 Compared to

previous Assassin's Creed games, Origins plays as a familiar game, with a new view on life. Combat is much more fluid and challenging, and the missions are no longer generic. When looking at games like Grand Theft Auto or Agents of Mayhem you'll be rewarded with much more depth.

Play this if

you're into the third person genre. Liked GTA? Liked the previous Assassin's Creed games? Then this is a no-brainer. Just get it already and explore Egypt. With the change in fighting and the MASSIVE open world, you'll feel like you've been a sand dweller your entire life.
I can see my house from here!

Leave this if

the third person genre isn't you. Hate Egypt and everything around it? Then don't bother. The open world and free choice leaves you free to do as you please. This can be very confusing for novice players, but should help you stay in 'safer' areas.
